Spaghetti Bolognese
This is a classic pasta dish, spaghetti with Bolognese sauce has always been one of my favorites, it is the perfect anytime comfort food that takes very little time to prepare.
I prefer to use mince beef that is not too fatty for the Bolognese sauces, topside is a good choice.
Ingredients
1 packet spaghetti
500 grams minced beef
1 onion diced
5 cloves garlic chopped
1 fresh tomato chopped
1 teaspoon Italian dry herbs
A handful of fresh basil leaves
500 ml tomato purée
2 tablespoons thick tomato paste
1/2 cup water
3 tablespoons olive oil
Salt
Ground black pepper
Grated Parmesan cheese to serve
Method
Cook the spaghetti until done, preferably al dente and drain
In a sauce pan heat the olive oil
Add in the minced beef and fry for about 5 minutes
Add in chopped garlic and mix
Add in salt, pepper, Italian herbs and onions
Cook for about 5 minutes
Add fresh chopped tomato and cook for about 3 minutes
Pour in half a cup of water
Add tomato purée and tomato paste
Simmer for 10 minutes
Add in fresh basil
Serve the spaghetti and Bolognese sauce with a sprinkle of grated Parmesan cheese
